Philips Vietnam supports Can Tho to train high-quality medical manpower

CAN THO – The Netherlands-invested Philips Vietnam Company on December 16 signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nam Can Tho University to support the university to train high-quality medical manpower between 2022 and 2024.

The memorandum of understanding was signed upon the announcement that the university will inaugurate its hospital early next year.

Accordingly, senior students of the university’s healthcare faculty will be equipped with the knowledge and how to use diagnostic imaging, intensive care, and emergency equipment. They are expected to become high-quality healthcare workers serving the demand for medical checkups and treatment in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta as a whole.

In the framework of the cooperation, Philips will award two scholarships to students of Nam Can Tho University, allowing them to attend a Philips training course in Singapore.

The Nam Can Tho University’s hospital will have 14 wards with 300 beds and the most updated medical equipment.

According to Dr Nguyen Tien Dung, chairman of the Nam Can Tho University, the cooperation with Philips is part of the university’s plan to enhance the connection with enterprises to serve the demands of its students.

Before Philips, the university has cooperated with Tata International, ISUZU, Vingroup, the Can Tho Central General Hospital, 121 Military Hospital, DHG Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company, Viettinbank, HDBank, Misa, Viettel, VNPT and the Can Tho Employment Services Center.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Hugo Luik, general manager of Philips Vietnam, said the training was a focus of Philips in Vietnam and worldwide. The company has joined hands with many large hospitals as well as associations to hold many training courses for local medical workers, contributing to the development of a high-quality medical force in Vietnam.

The firm hoped the cooperation with Nam Can Tho University would help its students keep up with advanced technologies globally and apply them in their clinical practices, thus improving medical checkup and treatment services in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region.

Frank de Laat, deputy consul general of the Netherlands in HCMC, said the cooperation would equip students with the knowledge and skills to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment at hospitals and clinics in the region.
