CAN THO – The Saigon Times Group, in cooperation with Can Tho University, on December 14 will hold a seminar on sustainable development and adaptation to climate change in the Mekong Delta, aiming to find solutions for executing the Government’s Resolution No.120/NQ-CP on the issue.

The event will take place in the university's Rectorate Hall on the morning of Friday.
At the event, leaders of provinces in the delta and experts will address what has been done and has yet to be finished regarding the execution of Resolution 120, while suggesting solutions for the coming period.

Resolution No.120/NQ-CP, dated November 17, 2017, involves nearly 30 ministries and agencies, as well as cities and provinces in the delta.

The resolution also asked the Ministry of Information and Communications to direct its subordinate agencies to boost media campaigns, aiming to raise the awareness of local residents in the Mekong Delta regarding opportunities to ensure sustainable development and cope with climate change.

Earlier, addressing a symposium discussing the release of the resolution, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed that the Mekong Delta mainly relied on natural advantages for development.

As for a visit to Can Tho University on August 10 this year, the prime minister hoped that the university would function as a research body and propose solutions to realize Resolution No. 120.

Since the issuance of Resolution No. 120, several localities in the Mekong Delta have released a number of resolutions, while multiple ministries and agencies have promoted programs to execute the Government’s resolution, but the outcome has not lived up to expectations. There remains a lack of connectivity between localities and ministries, as well as financial obstacles.
